Jumpy ig

I have had my ig for about 1.5 years and he has always been a little jumpy when I go to take him out of his cage. I realize that igs are territorial, so that could account for his jumpiness. Any suggestions on how to get him to trust me a little bit more? Also, I need suggestions on how to get him out of his cage when he refuses that I grab him to take him out (which is the majority of the time)? Any help would be appreciated.
