Now, before anyone berates me, please read this. Sorry it is kind of long:
I am 14 years old. I studied Melissa Kaplan's book, read all I could find on iguanas, then decided that I would tryt to take one of the big guys on. I adopted a young one from an owber who no longer wanted it. I set up a very large, custom made cage just for him. I did all the right stuff, held him every day for a looooong time and loved him to death. But, still, after a year, he was still launching himself at me and I have scars from his teeth on my face to prove it. I had to make, partly because my mom was afraid I would get hurt badly, the decision to give him to a new home. He has the best life imaginable, and is taming nicely with his new owner. I suspect it might be because his new owner is a guy. Anyway, I was at basketball tryouts at school. My mom came to pick me up, and she smiled in a way that meant, "Heh...ummm...I did something I shouldn't have." Regretting what she was goong to say, I got in the truck. She said she had an "early birthday present wating at home." I got there and she opened a box and showed me the smallest, suckest, most devastated little creature I had ever seen. It, obviously, was a baby iguana. This was right after 9/11, so he had sat in a warehouse for a week, before going to the pet shop. He arrived dehydrated and malnorouished. He looked up at me and I knew I had to try and save him. I set up my only available tank, a 20 gaqllon long(I know, I know, it is waaaaay too small)and put him in it. In just a few hours, he was eating, basking, and drinking. I took him to the vet, who said he was just having some trouble shedding, and was recovering well. I named him Stinky. He sits in his cage right now, in his hide box. I take care of him well and he is doing quite well. However, I have been saving up for a VERY long time to get him the right cage, and I finally have more than enough. Is a 260 gallon Reptarium a good idea? I am thinking about buying one of those. If anyone has any response to what kind of cage I should get him, please email me, as I can hardly ever get on this site to check responses, but I check my email every day. Unfortunatley, I am running out of time that he can stay in that tiny tank, and I have a only $253 to spend on his cage. What safe, iggy-good cage can I get? Thanks, and remember, please EMAIL ME. Thanks!
