So far we don't have a reason for the behavior. Vet visit turned up zero physical problems. I've checked everything anyone has suggested, to no avail. At present, no tail biting is going on. We're holding our breath. I've included a pic of the small bite wounds on his tail. If it continues, we'll try wrapping the tail in a new type of medical tape that is somewhat elastic, and only sticks to itself. My vet uses a small wrap of this stuff around his tail when she draws blood, and he has tolerated that well, so if it continues, we'll try that. Wish us luck...
