i took some pix of iZ's head tonite (click here)

kinda yechy lookin' but i think that it's a really good thing that the pus *is* draining ... (this stuff always happens *after* vet office hours ~ will check with him tuesday)

there's now some open areas on his gums as well, tho i didn't *see* any yechy stuff, i assume it's draining or *will be* draining soon ...

throat doesn't look anywhere near as swollen or sore tonite and saliva is looking almost normal ... still has difficulty swallowing and has no appetite but drinks his pedialyte good ...

he opens his mouth + holds it open for me to look and then clean it out and then put silvadine on it ... (boggles my mind!)
also lots of silvadine on *top* of his head now too ...

in MK's article on mouth rot, she sez "In cases of sudden and severe onset, there may be acute inflammation of the buccal and pharyngeal membranes ...." ... (buccal = cheeks) ... so i think the swelling *is* relevant ...

one subtle symptom that she also mentions is "slight petechia" which my dictionary translates as "Small crimson, purple, or livid spots ... due to the extravasation of blood, which appear on the skin in malignant fevers, etc."
Extravasation translates "The act of forcing or letting out of its proper vessels or ducts, as a fluid; effusion; as as extravasation of blood afer a rupture of the vessels"

that fits both the dark purple-ness of some of the scales on top of his head i 1st noticed last mon-tues AND the oozing that started tonite ...

iZ's head has been *very* dark this last week *and* he'd been seeking out the cooler corner of his room ... dark colors usually indicate a "happy mood" for iZ and that didn't make sense til the dictionary

the really ODD thing is that since thurs when this started, he has been totally FREAKED about getting into the tub ... this is the ig who likes daily 30-60 minutes soaks + back rubs ... so obviously, he's still *feeling* pretty yechy ...

thank you ALL again + again for letting me cry + whine on your shoulders + for all the support! iZ + i wouldn't have made it half this far without you all ...
