In Reply to: here's what's goin' on ... (sorry it's long, i rambled ...) posted by iZ's mom on March 15, 2002 at 14:02:37:

: thank you ALL for the support, input, help, etc!!!
: it's very appreciated!

: 1st yesterday was just a hectic day to begin with some family-crisis-type-bs going on ... it's all gonna be fine but had unplanned guests alllll day ~ 3 g-kids, son, dil and her little sis ... (*whew* was it LOUD!)
: so the house is chaos ...

: iZ has been acting a bit .... errrrrrr ... slightly stressed ... the last few days and so have been keeping an even closer eye on him but had pretty much chalked it up to the fact that his head/face are shedding AGAIN and he just positively HATES that ...

: so last nite, as per our routine, he's sitting on my lap in the bathroom ... that is *OUR* time and is his most relaxed time, even during mating season ...
: he sits on my lap, gets drinks from the good ol' oral syringe, gets in the tub + poops ~ glares at me til i rinse the tub and then soaks + lounges to his heart's content ...

: he'd just finished his drink, still sitting on my lap, when all of a sudden he just FREAKED and threw himself across the room and flew into the storage closet ... i grabbed him just above his back legs ~ just as he wedged himself into the antique sewing machine and caught his head in a toy metal shopping cart ... he's freaking this entire time and i'm trying hard not to ...

: i get him out, wrap him in his blue towel and we sit back down and he looks fairly calm ... put him in the tub and he freaks again ... get him calmed down yet again and he looks like he's enjoying the soak ...

: (+ in the background the g-kids are screechingly playing ... ARG!)

: i page the emergency vet + the one on-call actually knows igs!
: at this point i'm in tears ... i don't have a clue WHAT is wrong, i just know that something is + the way he flew off my lap is reminiscent of how i've seen him act when i *know* he was in pain ...

: anyway ... he's got stomatitis ... and while his mouth doesn't *look* that sore, it obviously *is* ... everything else checks out ok ...

: and iZ was *so* good and well-behaved!!! he stayed calm and let the doc take a really good look in his mouth ... the doc + wife (who's also a vet) didn't believe that iZ would take 1.5cc's of oral Baytril with no problems for me ... so we showed them!

: ok ... i get home, get iZ settled in and look up stomatitis and now *I* freak ... i thought it was "just" a mouth infection but it indicates that there is already a systemic infection going on?!?!??? *heavy sigh*

: his mouth doesn't look "that bad" ... the only area that looks sore is more towards his throat than on the gums ... will see if i can get a better look later during bath-time, but from what i could see last nite, there didn't appear to really be any place to culture or to clean ... ????

: anyway ... he's on baytril for 10 days ...
: i don't let his room cool down at nite anyway, just with his past medical history ... humidity's been 50-70% this last week ... it makes the walls damp but it helps when he's shedding, so i clean the walls once a week ... :)
: he already gets daily oral syringe drinks, but will attempt to up the amount while he's on the baytril ...

: will take him back in for a re-check in 2 weeks and get a thorough exam ...

: *geesh* and i was just bragging about how darned GOOD he's been doin' ...
: well ~ he impressed both the vets with his size, but especially with his manners! :)

: thanks bunches!!
: Bon. + iZ
