fake plants are great! they make it look more like a 'home' than a cage and they're good for making hiding places (usually, it's only iZ's *head* you can't see, but he's ok with that!)
you don't have to worry if they're poisonous (they're not)
they won't get bugs
they won't die
your ig may chew on them once, but after that, he'll give up ... real plants will get munched alot

in conclusion: we like fake plants ALOT at my house! oops, 'scuse me, *iZ's* house!
