: We finally got confirmation that the owner of the pet store in Dover was charged with 7 counts of cruelty, apparently some power that be saw the good sense in amending the 1 charge they orig. gave him. I've posted the link in case anyone is interested. They still have not charged his wife which makes me sick because the story the husband is telling is that she had a restraining order on him and he could not go in the store to take care of the animals -she should have been charged regardless. There are so many holes in Dover's case, even a bad lawyer is going to be able to get this %$$&%#*(!& off or at the very least have the charges massivly reduced. Truth be told, at the very least, I would like to see the charges amended again to include the animals that died. The vet on the case has cited in his reports that the animals died due to an infection that could have been prevented through proper husbandry.
: Out of the animals that Broken Reptile took, we lost 4 lizards and one snake to a fatal and contageous bacterial infection. Of the remaining animals only 2 are still refusing food, one snake with severe pnemonia and another snake that just finished a massive shed 2 days ago. The animals are due for a followup visit with the vet soon and this weekend 2 are going in for followup testing. We're going to be able to post the animals that are available for adoption within the next week and hopefully we will be able to start placing them over the course of the next two weeks! There are a total of 13 iguanas available, 17 snakes, 9 frogs, 1 tortoise, 1 amphibian and 25 assorted lizards looking for good homes. Those of you who live in New England pass the word and send people to www.brokenreptile.com if they are looking to adopt! We are in the process of finding an appropriate home for the adult nile monitor and the adult burm we have here-neither will be listed on the site because we will not adopt them into the average private home.
: I still can't get over how all of this happened and that abuse and neglect like we saw in that shop happens all over the country every single day. Infact, just last weekend we took in another iguana that was purchased from the pet store referred to here that was sold to the people very sick. Even after they paid for the iguana and then paid for vet care they just didn't feel they were the best home for him. They were given bogus care info by both the pet store and the vet -the vet gave them neocalglucon and neglected to tell them that if they didn't expose the iguana to UVB the neocal would do no good. SIGH and people wonder why those of us in any type of rescue go postal from time to time.
