In Reply to: This past weekend's iguana experience... posted by Krisann on March 05, 2002 at 09:55:10:
: I thought I would share this past weekend's experience with you guys... if nothing else, it is good for a laugh...
: I fed Keegan, my 6-month old Iguana, Sunday morning as usual. I put his food (shredded green beans, mangos, asparagus, alfalfa, etc.) in with him and like always, he flew down to the dish (currently a plastic lid) to chow down. That day, I had also given him a small piece of mustard green that he usually saves until last. I watched him for a moment, and then went on about my business.
: I looked over moments later and he was still enjoying his breakfast, and had a piece of his crushed alfalfa hanging out of his mouth. (He isn't the cleanest eater out there) He turned back to his bowl, tilted his head sideways, and then plopped his head down into his bowl as if he had passed out or something. I freaked.
: I ran over, fearing that he was choking or something. As soon as I opened the cage door, he picked his head up and looked at me like I was crazy. He went on eating. I, on the other hand, was confused.
: A minute later, he did the same thing - tilted his head and plopped right down again with his eyes open. He honestly looked like he was passed out! I went back over again, opened the door, and he jumped up and looked at me.
: Ok, I thought something was wrong. I was panicking. I ran for the cordless phone to call the doc, and before I dialed, I watched him again.
: And again. And again. And again. Then, humiliated, I laughed and sat down.
: He loves green beans. They have become his favorite part of his 'iguana salad'... well, I had laid that mustard green piece over his food, and apparently he didn't like this idea. The little booger was laying his head down and looking under the leaf for his green beans. I figured this out when I saw him try to scoot his snout under the leaf to get the pieces of beans, without disturbing the little leaf-made castle that covered his food.
: Well, needless to say, I learned my lesson. Now I am putting his pieces of greens elsewhere... except for when he looks like he needs a good game of hide-and-seek with the beans...
