In Reply to: Planning to get an Ig posted by Adrian on February 26, 2002 at 07:21:53:
: hello guys,
: i'm adrian and i'm planning to get an ig but before i make that decision i made some research on the net and found out that ig owners lives in a temperate climate or 4 season climate. i live in malaysia where it's sunny all day. but i'm still wondering if i still need and uv bulb. the temp here is about 32 degrees celcius and in my home is about 28 dgrees celcius. humidity is fairly high but not sure if it's suitable for an ig though i think frequent spraying of water will do the trick. i work 12 hours a day starting from 12 pm till 12 am. i just need to know how long should i bask my ig under the sun (morning sun?) and do i still need heating and uv lights for the ig's liar? diet is not a problem here i more concern about the heating and uv lights. please advice. appreciate much
: adrian,

Will you have any time to spend with your ig? They need to be handled and paid attention to so you can tame them?
If you have a sunny and warm temperature, that is great for an iguana. You shouldn't need a UVB bulb if it's sunny most of the time.
If you have an outside enclosure for your ig (where you know it's safe and no one can get at it), you can probably let him outside most of the day, PROVIDED, you make sure part of his cage is always in the shade and he has plenty of water and fresh greens. I lay my greens in a flat rectangular container of water and they stay fresh for hours. If it gets too cold before you get home, then I guess you will have to put him out in the morning before you go to work.
I didn't get mine out much last summer, but the summer before, he was out almost all day. That was okay because I am home most of the time and I could make sure he was in part shade, was safe and I sprayed him a lot.
Remember, too, your ig can get to be five or six feet long.
If you commit to an iguana, you can't just pick up and leave to go away. It takes a lot of planning, because not everyone wants to babysit an iguana.
