The question has actually arisen as a result of my Urinary course this quarter. I guess I had always taken the statement at face value. I guess the old cliche, "the more you learn the less you know," holds true here. The more I've learned about renal function, the more difficult it is for me to conceptualize a renal mechanism that would result in deleterious effects due to animal protein vs. plant protein. You'd be amazed at the lack of reptile information even at a veterinary college. I find myself disgusted by it on a regular basis. Anyway, I'll keep digging and keep you posted. I did read on VIN that the "syndrome" know as chronic kidney failure in reptiles was not comparable to that in mammals and had a very vague multifactorial etiology with feeding animal protein being only one factor.
