: many people are out of date on their info. Many people think that since in the wild they can eat a bird or a bug, its their diet. here's an excert from my nutrition page:

: "A common misinterpretation about iguana's, is that they eat crickets, pinkie mice, meal worms, and other common lizard foods. I have often been asked "what do you feed it, crickets? worms?". The fact is, animal protein is detrimental to an iguana's health. You may not see any adverse affects, until kidney failure sets in. Many people protest that iguana's eat baby birds in the wild, and that juvenile iguana's eat insects. I have seen/read countless debates on this subject, and have come to this conclusion: Iguana's eat many things in the wild, whether its a fruit fly on a piece of mango, or the opportunity at a bird. A person in the wild, would eat maggots, feces, and practically anything to survive. Children eat chalk, dirt, crayons, and many other things. Are they good for them? No. But it just happens. In the wild, an iguana does not have someone to care for it, and to control its diet. In the wild, an iguana cares about a couple things: Survival, and Reproduction. How good its diet is, is not an iguana's top priority. It is your duty, to keep your iguana's life healthy, and rich. Feeding a proper diet, free of animal protein will ensure a long and healthy life."
