A good way to tell if he'll keep the tail...

TAKE HIM TO A QUALIFIED HERP VET. Especially if there appears to be "something" sticking out of the wound. Could be a foreign body that caused the injury... Could also be a tendon sticking out from the tail. There's really only one good way to tell and it certainly is NOT waiting until the tail possibly falls off. In between waiting to see what happens things like, ohhh, dry gangrene could set in and lodge itself firmly within his system making the problem infinitely worse.

But if you'd rather wait and see what happens instead of seeking medical attention for him I guess we'll all just have to do the same....
