In Reply to: Iguana won't eat...HELP posted by Chuck on February 13, 1999 at 11:03:18:
: Hi... I have been a proud owner of an Iguana since I was a sophomore in HS and now I'm a junior in college. My mother and I have been taking very good care of her for the past 7 years. We recently moved from KY to central Ohio. She got sick and came down with kidney disease. $650 later she was back to normal. It seems however ever since the move north she has quit eating and quit shedding. She is a little over 4 ft long and has really lost her color. We have been trying to feed her everything from carrots, broccoli, and kale and she still refuses to eat. I added another heat rock in her cage thinking she is cold. Her current enviro is a 4'x2'x2' cage with two heat rocks and a heat lamp. She has also lost all activity. Her colors have changed from bright green and purple to brown and light light green. I can't afford another vet trip as the last one was $200. I'm on a college student basis and have spent over $1000 in the past year. Is it time for my iguana to go to happy iguana land? or is there something that can be done for her ? She also has no shedding schedule as she did before which was once every 3 weeks. She barely sheds at all. She is free to roam the house when she wants to but usually hides under something and doest head for sunlight. Does anyone have any suggestions ?
You didn't say how long since the move, you know ig's hate change. It's also that time of the yearwhen its cold and so their activity levels slow as well as their eating. My 4yr old female has slowed her eating and shedding to, it's pretty standard and we live in Fla.Ig's seem to lose their bright colors as they get older, I guess it's because they hang out in different places then when they were young,so their commofluge(sp) changes. My girl was bright green and now she's greenish brownish. Watch your girl and by the way, kale and brocoli aren't good for ig's on a steady basis,it blocks absorption of cal, I think. Go for the collards, mustards and turnip green.Make sure she's getting fluids too and vita lite.Hope this hlps, watch for Iz'smom and Joan's advice, they are good and knowledgable.
