peat substrate

hi i have got a new ig and built a new tank my problem i have used peat as a substrate and i am quick learning that this is a bad idea igabelle has a bad habit of digging and filling her water bowl up with peat for which i am emptying and cleaning 2 or 3 times a day and she is getting very mucky and she isnt trained yet either so cleaning her is a problem,can anyone recommend a better substrate please thank you dennis
