How old or big is your iguana? How long have you had him?

With iguanas sometimes it takes years to build up a trusting relationship...
If our iguana is larger and older maybe a better approach instead of taking him out would be to start off with getting him to trust you enough to eat a bit of food from your hand (in the cage) the move up to some gentle petting....mind you this even takes months sometimes....eventually you can move up to letting him out on his own free will, to exit and re-enter the cage when he chooses.
