ok listen to me, 3 of my iguanas are very healthy and i dont use any humidity or uv lights, just a heat lamp. one of them i did get at petco and he was a mess when i got him for xmas last year. he is only 8 inches long and is about a year and a half old. But the other 3 are healthy and i do let them roam the house so they arent all in the cage except during the night when i go to bed.
I am going to go against the norm and raise them the way i like and I will keep you updated on their progress. If i notice if they get sick or fight i will take the necessary measures but like i said before i think some of you really overdo it with your iguanas and thats fine but i dont believe it is necessary. I am sure mine will live a good 15-20 years.
: As one of the few here that keeps multiple iguanas together 24/7/365, I've just got to respond!
: : First of all I have had these iguanas for over a year and they are pretty young and not that big so they have plenty of room in this mesh cage. Secondly, I have supervised them hours on end every day and they get along and dont fight. I do realize when they come to full size I will have to either sell the a couple or get new cages but for now it looks like a suitable environment.
: Over a year and they are not that big? If 4, 1 year old+ igs can live in a cage 3'X6' and have "penty" of room, then they are STUNTED and SICK! This would also explain the lack of any fights or dominance attempts, as they are too unhealthy to act like normal igs.
:
: : As for the humidity, no its not 100% perfect humidity for them, but these are captive bred and are not in need of a perfect climate like in columbia.
: 1) They ARE NOT captive bred. You purchased these at a pet store correct? They are FARMED, which is not even close to CB, and can be actually a dirtier environment than a lot of WC
: specimens encounter.
: 2) Even IF they were CB, one generation of captive breeding DOES NOT change them genetically, or eliminate the need for a proper environment!
: PLEASE take proper care of your iguanas!
