: I guess it is easier since gizmo is just a baby now - it's a feast if she eats more than 2 or 3 tablespoons! :-) But I do feel I have all the required resources, and like you said Christy, I think all this is a labor of love anyway. Just one more thing - you all mentioned interacting at least one hour a day -- what all does this involve? Baths are usually 15-30 minutes (and Gizmo seems to HATE the bath right now - I have to use a Rubbermaid container since I have no tub) and I try to hold her a lot but whenever I do that she gets squirmy and tries to run under the door or climb inside my printer!! So I guess the question is how did you all play with your igs when they were tiny and how do I make bathtime FUN?? Thanks again for all your input! (And don't worry I wasn;t going to BUY another reptile yet - I just wanted to compare since you had mentioned them below. And thanks for Jeff's name at tegu forum - those little guys are looking like a fun possibility for the future.)
Okay. Igs don't usually play in the sense dogs and cats play. My ig likes to jump from his basking spot to the bed (in the room he's in), to the chair, walk over the nightstand and he will repeat this stuff and wander around. I guess that's his form of "play".
Bathtime is still a bit of a chore for me, too. Mine is 21 months old and once in a while he goes in with no trouble. I will tell you -- if you have a shower, try that. My ig prefers a shower. Just keep an eye on the water that it stays a constant temperature. Showers also make steam, which is beneficial to the ig.
I don't think you really can play much with tiny igs anyway. What I used to do -- I would close the door (at that time, the room mine was in was almost empty), take him out and let him wander and smell everything. I did take him out at night to watch TV (when I knew he was tired) and would hold him and he would fall asleep (which he still does). They are funny to watch -- trying to jump and reach things they can't and then you will notice one day they CAN (and you'll know he grew). Once mine outgrew the cage he was in (a little over six months old), I made a little basking spot for him and he's a free roamer in that room. I think it also helped give him a better personality because he wasn't in the cage all day.
