: 1. What is the best way to choose a good iguana from a cage full of baby iguanas?
The best choice is to adopt. Other than that -any time you buy any animal, especially a reptile, from the pet store it's a roll of the dice. Look for plump, meaty and active with no crust, bumps or sores. If you end up buying -get it right to the vet for a worming and complete physical.
: 2. Is it better to have a male or female iggi depending on mantaince, attitude, and cost?
It's not so much a sex issue as it is an individula issue. THe only difference in care is that a femal will require a nesting box when she becomes gravid and they can become gravid without ever mating.
: 3. Should you spay or nuder your iguana? Why? If so, does this curve the fighting and mating instinct like it does in dogs?
We suggest that you do this if you plan on having mulitple iguanas in your home. As this is a preference issue -it's best to discuss with your vet. We spay all females so that we do not have to deal with eggs every year.
: 4. How long does a merc vapor bulb's UV rays last? Six months like floresent?
They last a minimum of 1 year and come with a 1 year warranty. There is evidence that the bulbs produce useable UVB for up to 2 years.
