Based soley on knowing the care requirements for a GGI, I'd take a tegu any day! They are truely beautiful and amazing creatures! The only drawback -if you can even call it that, that I have seen with tegus is that they have an incredibly fast griwth rate. A close friend of mine keeps tegus and I am always astonished when I see them because of their growth rate. My favorite is the red tegu -they are very pretty. Jeff Houston over on the KS tegu forum seems to be a pretty knowledgable guy when it comes to tegus and so he'd be the person I'd talk to first when thinking about bringing one home.
A GGI isn't for everyone! I've said it before and I will say it again ... Unless you have lots of spare time, room for a large enclosure and enough money to buy the right size house for one, lights, heat elements, a humidifier and food, as well as pay for vet care -it's better not to get one.
