: I have a 5-month old (Phil) who is healthy, very well socialized, and spends a good portion of the day around the house or on my shoulder. This is great for both of us, except that i'm having trouble finding a way to house train him. Anybody have any suggestions/experience re: avoiding accidents? Some assistance would be great. Thanks a bunch,

Lily:
My ig was about 6-7 months old when he became a free roamer. I have a spare room on my second floor that used to be my daughter's playroom when she was small. I cleaned it out and turned it into a spare bedroom and a room for Max. Things are set up that he can't get up on the dressers.
I have a dog pen (covered in mesh) by the window and everything set up on TOP of it, so he can see out the window during the day. His lights and heating pad are there, too. When I go away over night, my mom insists he be IN the cage :)
Anyway, I have a piece of plexiglas across the doorway so he can't get out. The closet door is closed. So, if I don't see him, I know he didn't get out of the room.
Now that he's bigger and in breeding season, I have to make sure I covered the mirror on the door and the plexiglas and pull the shade at night or he will smash himself into the "other iggy". My daughter's room is on the other side of the second floor and now that he's bigger, he's allowed over there, too.
I can tell you they DO love looking out the window to see what's going on. My window has an awning over it and it's on the north side of the house which doesn't get sun until late afternoon. He will go to my daughter's South-facing room, but the sun is still not direct because of the awning, and look out the windows almost all day. That seems to be enough for them, so he's not getting into things in my room.
