: 1. What is the best way to choose a good iguana from a cage full of baby iguanas?
ADOPT... there are tons of iguanas needing homes. You can get a young or older one (male or female)
: 2. Is it better to have a male or female iggi depending on mantaince, attitude, and cost?
It depends on what you want to put up with.... eggs or attitude. Some lay eggs with no problems while others become eggbound wich is quite dangerous. Some males are so aggressive you need welding gloves, others are just full of energy and more attitude than you'd like during breeding season. I've always had males but met some supersweet females.
: 3. Should you spay or nuder your iguana? Why? If so, does this curve the fighting and mating instinct like it does in dogs?
People usually don't spay until their iguana is eggbound because it is easier to remove all the follicles then. You may as well not do it until your ig has problems since she may lay fine. Some do change personalities after spaying. I haven't heard of any igs being nuetered although it can be done. They also have hormone treatment for male igs to subdue the breeding season insanity. My vet suggested it to me as an option, but I'm riding it out.
: 4. How long does a merc vapor bulb's UV rays last? Six months like floresent?
They last at least 1 year.
