: how big do these great lookin guys get, what should be used for substrate, how big would a adults enclosure have to be, how often does cageneed to be cleand and finally whats a good price for one?
IF cared for properly, as Karen suggested, upwards of 6'is common. Substrate as she recommended also. Plan to have room in your apartment, house for at LEAST a 6'x6'x3' enclosure. Diet is specialized - totally vegetarian WITH special requirements. Enclosures usually have to be cleaned daily.
Price? For an enclosure- if you build it yourself, somewhere around $500+ plus electronics. What we recommend is going to run you upwards of $200. Price for an ig - FREE if you adopt one from a shelter. Plan on spending roughly $1500 the first year for the ig. Take a look at the cost analysis for an ig at The Iguana Spot.
In all honesty, iguanas are absolutely NOT a beginner reptile and really should not be considered pets for anyone expect an experienced herper. If you have the experience AND the money for equipment/supplies/vet care keep researching until you feel that you are prepared ...And then go through everything one more time....James Hatfield has an excellent book out - Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual. I suggest reading it BEFORE you get an ig. Better to spend the $25 on the book now instead of spending $1000 later only to possibly find out that iguanas aren't for you. Feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions.....
