Barbara, I am so glad to hear you are looking for ways to deal with him. I too had to deal with those raging male hormones once with my guy [sadly no longer with us :(] He bit me in the neck too! My vet told me, and I began to believe, that he saw me as his mate. Iguana males bite the female in the neck to position her for sex, so watch out! My guy also saw my boyfriend as the competition, and would chase him down the hallway of our house! With me he was more bluff than action most of the time... I learned that when he was in a rage, the easiest thing to do was to toss a blanket over him. wrapped in a blanket, I could get him to the pottie and back to his cage. When carrying him, keep him faced away from you, so if he gets free, he will most likely hit the floor. Then you will have to catch him, just toss the blanket over him. Take heart, it is a temporary thing, he should soon return to his normal friendly self!
: I know its breeding season and it brings the aggressiveness out in males, but here's my story. I just discovered my iguana is male, two days ago, a day after he bit me. It was the first time he bit me hard, and it was my neck. So far he's bit me once more on the cheek. It's always when I am trying to take him back to his cage. I've had the hardest time taming him before and now I am beginning to think its near impossible. He hates when I take him out of his cage, but once with me, loves to have his head and neck and dewlap area rubbed. but once I stop he flees from me. Its been hard to get in scheduled time between us because I am a full time student. When he was given to me a year ago as a baby he was very fiesty, and I didn't know how to take care of him. Now I find myself a year later after reading several books, in the same boat. I just don't know how to take care of him, or tame him. I don't know what to do with his new found love of biting my face. If anyone could give me any advice on how to help him out, and possibly tame him during mating season I'd love to hear it. I don't want to give him away or put him down, but he's only going to get bigger with stronger jaws, and I'm scared of what he may become.
