I know the situation. I too was sold my iguana and was told it could definately live in the same cage as my waterdragon (insect eating) Never mind the size of the cage for the iguana. Seeing as a bowl of worms and grasshoppers were loose in the cage the iguana ate these too. I asked the petshop about it and they said it wouldnt be a problem. Hmmmm.

I wasnt sold a UV light for both animals even though I realised later they had them stocked.
I was sold a water bowl and a cage for the waterdragon which were both too small. The waterbowl he cant even sit in anymore. He now has a huge bowl which he swims around in. (And a new cage).
I was told to feed the iguana lettuce (iceberg lettuce always comes to mind), so in the beginning he ate iceberg lettuce, broccoli (flowers), mealworms and grasshoppers.
Some people say the internet is a waste of time, but I know its the only thing that saved my lizards.

I was also told to rais the humidity in the cage so this has also only been a recent thing.
We were also given wrong advice about our snakes which also resulted in an emergency vet visit over christmas holidays. This problem has been sold at the petshop so far and we are still busy about the lizards.
