taming my baby ig

my ig is still teally scared of me. is it better to leave a food dish in his tank or should i make him eat out of my hand so he gains my trust.i know i have to be patient.i just want him to trust me. hes in a 55 gal tank so i cant open it to let him run around.i let him out but he runs and its hard to catch him.hes not like my baby corn snake. my snake loves to be held.
