: 1> Heat rocks ... **ARE**NOT**RECOMMENDED**UNDER**ANY**CONDITIONS,**FREE**OR**NOT!!!!!!!!!
but, you could try this: plug the heat rock in, put a layer of whatever over it, and procede to sit on it for a couple hours (naked ... no fair wearing jeans!)
have your fiancee put aloe on your butt AFTER she throws the heat rock out ...
they have absolutely NO way of controlling the amount of heat they put out, they crack WAY too easily (like with routine cleaning or SPLASHING WATER) and are then an even more extreme hazard to the ig .......... AND YOU ...
go to Wal-Mart and buy a people heating pad, put a towel over it and leave it set on 'low' ... works great, it's cheap and it's SAFE ...

: 2> cage
the multiple shelves and greenery sound great!
tack some astroturf or a towel on them so it's a non-slip surface
your ig WILL try to climb on the vines tho, so make sure they're attached to something that will actually hold it's weight! (iZ's are wrapped around his logs and lattices, not just hanging free ...)
the water dish sounds fun too ... keep in mind that the iglet may think of it as a toilet and don't secure it to the point where you can't easily remove it for cleaning!
reptisun bulb.... is that a UV light? (not up on the brand names !) UV is good :)
temps: 70 degrees on the cool side, 90-95 degrees the warmest .... what worked good for iZ's room, is he has a 7' long shelf that is his favorite spot .... there's a heat lamp aimed at one end of it and the other end is in a shadow, so he's got a nice range on his fav. (highest!) shelf
his humidity is about 65%
i'd leave the floor as a cool spot ...
:Any other advice on cage?
make it as TALL as is possible ... igs live in trees and feel the safest when they can get way up high .... i used lattice on iZ's walls so he has climbing surfaces alllll over the place
you might want to re-think the carpet ... again cuz of where you iglet will decide his toilet is ... if you seal the floor with polyurethane, it'll be alot simpler to clean ...
don't put his enclosure next to the TV or stereo!

: I understand I'll be building a much bigger one soon. .... VERY!!! *GRIN*

: 3> foods
yes, emphasize the greens! and very little fruit
good diets to help you start out are at Melissa Kaplan's site and The Iguana Den's site
i don't use reptile vitamins ... i use people vitamins, crushed fine ... a VERY SMALL amount on his suppertime fruit everynight ... (no fruit for breakfast)
:what foods do you recommend?
collard greens, kale, swiss chard in small amount, collard greens, green onion greens, brocolli in small amounts, collard greens, mustard greens, zuccini, yellow squash, green beans, and collard greens ... iZ loves oranges but there's some disagreement over whether that is good or not

: 4> glad you're doing the research FIRST! *grins*
( i did not ....)

: 5> worms/parasites:
definitely take a fresh poo sample to your vet and have him/her check ... igs are pretty much 'born' with worms (like puppies + kittens are) and will need to be treated ... there IS an over the counter de-wormer, but i'd recommend going to a vet and NOT doing it yourself ... that's some pretty powerful medicine and i'd rather have a trained person figuring the dosages ... (it's not all that expensive!) go back for a re-check about 2-4 wks after the last dose of de-wormer (and again in about 6 months if you're a worrier like me!)

hope some of this helps ya out!
we're looking forward to hearing about the new addition to your family!

tongue flix + collard greenz from
iZ + mom

ps. the story was hilarious! i can't picture an ig going in reverse, full speed yet!
