Hi,
I would like to get a second opinion from a very knowledgeable vet regarding the condition of my 9yr. old iguana, but I want to find a reputable vet/specialist who I know I can trust. I did scan the internet for references, but many of the places I found for my area were no longer there or the reptile vet everyone recommended was no longer practicing there.
I took my iguana to a local vet clinic for an exam/consultation, but I left still not knowing how to proceed and I question whether or not I should follow their recommendations. The estimate for possible required treatment for a worst-case scenario came to $700. I am unemployed and money is tight right now, but I really want to help my iguana. It would be nice if the vet is also willing to work with me on payment options and would take the lowest-cost path to diagnosis and treatment.
My iguana has what appears to be an abscess on one side of his lower jaw, but I was told and also read that this may be a sign of an underlying, more serious condition. He also has lost some weight. What is the usual path of recommended treatment for something like this?
Thanks to those for reading/responding.
