This is a big thing! Definitely don't just jump into anything. Be advised that if not a room that can be dedicated to an iguana, you'll eventually need at lease a 5'W X 6'H X 3'D cage, which takes up alot of space. This also takes a daily commitment in order to help tame them, and give them attention. Don't plan on putting more than one in a cage together. Food prep is very time consuming, and they can be moody. Also many other needs, some of which I saw in other responses to your post. You can find great material at Melissa Kaplan's website.
All that aside, I have two 5'+ Iggies, one male, one female each in different cages. They get roam time, only one at a time though, and supervised. The female has a rough personality, while the male is my little baby. He's cool, and very friendly (of course, next mating season that could temporarily change)... It's been rewarding, but I don't think I'll replace them whenever they pass. Oh yeah, in captivity their life expectency can be 15 - 20 yrs when properly cared for....
