: how much of your IG's tail was actually cut off? My Ig's tail is looking to fall off about 1 inch from end of tail, any suggestions????
: Thanks,

My ig lost about four inches of tail when it came off. It was awful. It was stuck between the wall and the heat cover and it was still wiggling when it wasn't attacked to Max. He wasn't very big at the time. When it came off, the tail itself (the part that stayed attached to him :) looked like it had little threads coming out of it and it hardly bled at all. The problem you might have is it shriveling and it could possibly affect the rest of the tail (gangrene). The vet can snip it. A healthy tail grows back like a charcoal gray rubbery tail (no more green and no more stripes although one or two people swear theirs comes back the same). Mine now has about 6-8" of new growth and it's all that same dark color. If it comes back shrivelly, you will have to have it taken off again. I cleaned it off and used antiobiotic ointment until I saw new growth.
