Well it could be burning... how are her spines? If they look burned and different near her head, but fine everywhere else--that could mean you have the heat lamp too close to her head. Some igaunas do change colors as they age...mine does have a darker head in fact. You do need to rule out burns. How hot is your light and how far is it away from the ig?

See how dark Sleestack's head is...
