Hehe, i had to drive across country with my iguana..THAT was an experiance to remember. It was a 10 hour drive, and i took the same cage (it was only in a glass tank due to the fact taht i actually had bought the iggy from a guy down there) so during the drive i put a hot water bottle in there to keep the cage toasty, and i also brought the iguana out and sat on my lap (i was in thep assanger seat, also on the sunny side) so he mostly basked on my arm the whole drive... He did take a little bit of adjusting when he got here, but overall was much happier due to correct lighting, bigger cage.. etc..
So If you are just driving across town, or making temp places for the ig to stay while moving..It shouldn't be too harsh. =)
