Iguana Captured On Oahu Golf Course
A golf course maintenance worker found a 3-foot iguana on the Turtle Bay Golf Course in Kahuku on Monday.
The worker grabbed the lizard and held it at the resort's security office until Agriculture Deparment animal specialists arrived.
The iguana is being held at the plant quarantine branch.
Iguanas have established themselves in Waimanalo, but reports of sightings in the Kahuku area are rare, according to agriculture officials.
When fully grown, iguanas can reach 6 feet long.
It is illegal to own iguanas in Hawaii. People who are caught with the lizards face fines up to $200,000 and three years in prison.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of such illegal creatures could call the pest hotline at 586-7378.
