the issue is why are they falling off? Did they shed? Did they get ripped out? Did they just fall out?

If the whole spike was ripped out, it may not grow back. If they fell out due to nutricianal prblem, they may grow back.

More common is breaking, due to built-up shed. A good soak in the tub will help with this.
