: I'm thinking of writing a novel by that name someday...

: At any rate, here's the latest "trip to the vet" story. It was time for Bug's annual "well reptile" complete physical and exam, (actually a month overdue) and we were making preparations for the trip. We've always transported him to the vet inside a pillowcase, which is then inside a large plastic dog carrier. Being inside the pillowcase lowers stress, and makes it easier to get him in and out for handling at the vet.

: At any rate, I picked him up and headed him into the pillowcase as Mary held it. Keep in mind that he has doubled his size since the last visit, and now weighs in at 8.5 lbs, and 4 feet long. As I got him completely into it, I held it like Santa's toy bag to tape the neck closed, when suddenly, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a powerful set of claws, attached to a big orange hind leg, shredding the pillowcase like paper. Then another on the other side, and suddenly, I'm holding an indignant iguana in a big diaper! (One of Mary's good pillowcases, too)

: Well, this got me pretty excited, since I had just trimmed his nails the day before, and I knew how much strength it was taking to do that. I hurried him into the carrier, and, sure enough, the pillowcase continued to dissolve into pieces and parts until one really indignant iguana emerged.

: After a hurried trip to the vet, and lots of dancing and maneuvering to successfully extract him from the carrier, still wearing tatters of his vanquished foe, we began the exam.

: The first thing my vet always does is to check the oral cavity, and boy, did I get a shock. I feel that we take pretty good care of Bug, and I wasn't expecting to find any serious problems, but there, right in the center of his tongue, was a thin, white, perfectly coiled worm! My first reaction was to shout "What is That??!!" (showing my astute knowledge of vet science) Whereupon my vet said "looks like a parasite to me" (no kidding, John) She deftly scraped it off his tongue, and hurried to the microscope to identify it.

: The diagnosis? The dreaded "pillowcase thread" worm! Looks like we're going to have to make a custom "iguana bag" out of something really sturdy for the next trip.

: All did end well, though, as the rest of the exam went off without a hitch, and Bug is in excellent health. In fact, our vet says he's the best she's ever seen, and his blood work was superior. So, a good end for us during this holiday season.

: Happy Holidays to all,

: Best Regards,

: JohnT
