Hi Christie,

To go along with getting a good lighting fixture, I would suggest getting a good light. Many people buy the ZooMed 5.0 bulbs, which are the kind that come in a tube shape. They work fine, and will do, but recently, we purchased the new ActiveUV bulbs from herpsupplies.com and we're thrilled with them. These bulbs supply the igs with both UVB and UVA, and give off a lot of heat which makes buying another heat source irrelevant--thus saving you money in the long run by not having to buy a separate basking spot lamp and bulb.

The Active UV bulbs costs more upfront (anywhere between 39.99 to 54.00) but it lasts up to three times longer than the normal tube lamp you get at the pet store, (you need to replace the normal tube lights every six to eight months, where as with the Active UV bulbs, every year and a half is sufficient, as I understand it) and from what I've read, they give off more of the beneficial light and at stronger levels. The flourescent tube types of bulbs are weaker than the Active UV bulbs, but they are definitely better than no UV at all.

I am by no means an expert on the Active UV bulbs, (unlike Mr. D and Ig Chick) but so far, I much prefer them to the older, tube sort of UVlight bulbs. You can research them on the Internet, and I encourage you to do so. Research is the KEY to owning an iguana. Find out AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE about them before getting one. There is a TON of info out there, be aware of everything, and realize that no one person or company knows everything. I've learned to take good advice from people I trust, and take the rest with a grain of salt.

Just some food for thought as you consider getting your iguana.

Diana
