first, what do you consider "reasonable demand"? is that so that responsible keepers can have iguanas, or so that every 9 year old whiner in the US could have one, which is the case now anyway? I think what with the thousands of iguanas given up for adoption, anyone who was willing to provide a good home for an iguana could still do so without relying on the pet stores. There are also decent amounts of iguanas being captive bred in CA and FL, and I'm sure if the demand increased due to restrictions on importation that there would be a huge viable population of captive bred iguanas here in no time, anyway. I'll reply later on the issues of governmental regulation, and that of establishing difficult species in captivity.
