David, iguanas hatch with an inborn instinct that tells them they are on the top of the menu for every predator in thier habitat, and, indeed, they are. This means that to survive, they assume that everything bigger than they are intends to make a meal of them, and that includes you. All baby igs have this fear instinct, it's a basic survival instinct with them, so, as others have said, you must overcome this, and get the ig to trust you. They do become more confident and less fearful as they grow, because there's not too much in the wild that still tries to eat an iguana when it's 20 lbs and 6 feet long. However, some tame easier than others, and some never do. Males will always be more agressive and difficult to handle in breeding season. Just remember, he doesn't hate you, he just thinks you're going to eat him, and that's what you have to overcome.
Best of luck,
JohnT
