The redesign came about after T-Rex purchased the rights to the Active bulbs. What I DON'T like about it is the fact that, so far, I've only seen them on PetCompany shelves at a ridiculous price of $79.95. Bear in mind that, as near as I can figure, PetCompany has a pretty much standard markup on products of roughly 400%. That's been my personal observation only.

On a slightly different note, WildInside has comeout with a 60w version of the Active. Haven't had a good look at it yet but from what I briefly saw there is an external ballast attached to the dome fixture which means that you have to buy that particular fixture in order for the bulbs to work.........No idea on price though....
