I finally went and picked my new girl up... and I am SO pissed. The guy who had her just ignored her and left her alone when he went on snowboarding trips. He had another lizard, a baby bearded dragon, who he obviously paid MUCH more attention to, since it had a clean enlosure and all. I bonded with my new iggy as soon as I saw her. While trying to restrain myself from screaming at her irresponsible temporary owner, I picked her up and saw that she had disgustingly long claws. He told me he was "going to" take her to a vet and get them trimmed. He obviously didn't since she'd be off his hands eventually anyway. He also showed me the huge thick gloves he was using to pick her up since he wasn't willing to pay five bucks to get her nails trimmed. She also has an abcess on her face, below her lower lipline. Anyone have experience with iguana abcesses? She goes to the vet tomorrow, but I want to know what everyone thinks about these. That jerk never took her to the vet, and neither did her previous owner. So, her nails are trimmed, after clawing my arms to shreds for the whole way home. She is NOT picky while eating, which is such a relief. She was fed romaine and carrots and grapes and no supplements in her last home, but when I got her home she ate a good two or three platefuls of salad, with parsnips, squash, green beans, collards, mustard greens, endive, snow peas and a thawed raspberry or two going down with no pickiness whatsoever. Her appetite is huge, she loves sitting on the couch, and she finally hissed at me today for the first time after her first bath. How sweet!
She was being kept in an untreated wooden cage that was about 4' by 2' by 2'. Horizontally oriented. She's nearly 4 feet, and looked so cramped. She had one branch that wasn't even half her diameter, and a high water bowl that she couldn't even utilize at all. Suprisingly, her tail's never been broken and she doesn't have mites, although her lips are starting to show the slightest trace of MBD. I'm in love, she's got such soulful eyes. Pictures soon, and I'll let you all know what the vet thinks.
