Your iguana needs to clumb, this is a very natural instinct for them in the wild and you need to replicate this in captivity. You are kind of doing the wrong thing by allowing him so much freedom though, as whenever he gets out, he experiences freedom again, and doesn't want to be living in captivity, his cage, again. therefore you will make no headway. Instead of letting him roam free. Grab him, hold him belly to belly with you rub the top of his head, and hold him so he cant move around, do this as much as possible, and in a few weeks, he will start to calm down, once you have him calm, then he can have free roam, but watch out for carpet wrappin around his toes.
