: I've been taking my ig out of his enclosure for a couple weeks now to free roam... supervised of course. While he doesnt seem to like me much... still... he seems to enjoy being out. So far... just tonight... his behavior has change dramatically. He's trying to scale his walls... which are glass mind you, and has even hung, upside down, from the screning on the top of his enclosure. I took him out again, still whipping and thrashing, and let him roam a bit more, and has REALY been mischevious now, so I had to put him back. Now he seems to be pacing his enclosure, trying to scale the walls more, and I'm just waiting for him to hang from the screen again.
: Any insight or suggestions?
You have to realize that it takes a long long time to tame an iguana. Mine was whipping and trying to bite for almost six months. Also, igs lOVE to climb and in an enclosure with glass walls, it's very hard for him to do that. In the beginning, I had mine in a very large birdcage and he was always climbing around. Now I have a large mesh-covered dog pen (he was able to squeeze thru the bars) to use when I go away overnight and he climbs all over that. During the day, he free roams upstairs and he's always climbing around (top of the towel rack, top of the door, found him hanging on my daughter's bathrobe, in the closet on top of my clothing (you can see what I mean). Your ig is probably hanging off the cage top because it's the only place he can climb. And, yes, they are very mischievous. I LOVE watching mine. My mom always tells me "if your daughter did what that lizard does, you would have a fit" (LOL).....how true.........nanci
