In Reply to: Thin Ig.......... posted by nanci on November 07, 2001 at 09:36:25:

Mine was very thin for a long time too. What makes me worry about yours is that he doesn't sound like he grew too much this last year.

It turned out mine had gotten roundworms from grazing in the ig garden this summer, so within a week of his worming shot he gained like you wouldn't believe. How old is yours? He may have been infected with parasites early on in his life while still in the pet shop phase or even before then. It's worth getting checked out anyway.

Anyway, while mine has gained a lot he is by no means a heavyweight. I have a friend with a 6.5' bright tangerine orange tiger striped male that is totally massive, Pavel's got nothin' on him!

I hope this helps,

Lorraine

: : My little guy Zeek is well... rather little. We've had him for about 9 months now and from what I've got the impression of, he should be quite bigger than what he is. He's about 5" SVL and about 16" STL, I dont know, maybe that is normal for his age but from what I've heard, I think he should be bigger.

: : Another problem is he's rather thin... you can normally feel and see his ribs. Not real bad, but enough to make me worry. I give him lots of food, consisting of Collard Greens, Kale, Dandilion Greens, Carrot and various fruits like cantaloupe and banana. He normally eats most of it, about 3/4 of a cup worth, and he's in an 86 gallon tank(for now), with lots to climb, places to hide, and all the heat is right too. I'm at a loss.

: : Then again... I could be worrying about nothing.

: : Any help or reassurance would be appreciated.

: My ig is on the thin side, too. I saw one a few weeks ago and it was real thick. Some guy saw mine at the vet and said he had three and mine was so much thinner than his. I also feed my iguana all good food. Maybe the fat igs eat junk they're not supposed to -- who knows. From what they said one time on another board -- igs come in all shapes and sizes just like people do. If you are doing everything the way it's supposed to, I guess we just have thin igs.
