You have just experienced the "iguanas don't like change" syndrome. Unless they have been constantly exposed to a stream of people, most iguanas react negatively to new faces. (And some think they're really dim? They recognize people very well) Having strangers staying in the ig's room would definately stress it, especially if it doesn't have a "hide box". It should return to normal in a few days, but don't be surprised if it takes over a week.
