: Here comes another angry pet store post! I was at the Aqua-Tek at our mall today , at around 8:30 pm, and I went to the "lizard section" to check on a poor iguana that is unfortunat enough to be stuck there...anyways, he was lying on the floor of the hexagonal aquarium (theres no branches) and at first I though he was dead. Normally, their ribs, or stomach move when they breathe right? He was completely still for about five minuites. Then when I looked again, he opened his eye, and just looked at me. One of THOSE looks. What can I do? I can't take him home, I already have a male iguana, and not enough room for another. I hate this....
: Luckily, we have another pet store in the next village (just as close) that do take wonderful care of ALL their animals, and give out great information to all potential owners:) Needless to say, I do all my shopping there. At least there are a few good pet stores out there, It jus t depends on the people.
What I did a few times (and I did check back in the one pet store and they did upgrade conditions a bit) is send an anonymous note to the pet store telling them what was wrong and the right way to take care of the iguanas. At the bottom of the letter, I listed the humane society (or SPCA, I can't remember) as getting a copy. I don't know whether they checked on the pet store or not, but the next time I went in there, they had a warming light, cleaner cage and better conditions (not the best by a long shot, but better than what they had).
