My igs nesting box consists of a large rubbermaid bin filled (yup literally filled) with a 60% soil, 40% sand mixture. Access is from a hole cut in the top on one side. I keep the mixture moist, and there is a heating pad underneath so that it is warm. Generally she will dig for 2 weeks before laying, and not eat for 4 weeks total.
The first year she actually laid was when she was 4. Prior to that she re-absorbed the eggs (x-rays confirmed) Iguanas have the capability to re-absord eggs for various reasons. Some of which being their young age, improper nesting areas, lack of calcium, or simply just because they can. Though none of these mean that they WILL re-absorb, and you still need to be prepared for laying, as the other side means that if something is not right with the igs health or options provided, they may become egg bound and need medical attention. Although in my opinion egg bound igs has more to do with the iguanas health and care than other factors.
hth, and good luck.
