: Alrite people,

: I was just wondering if anyone who has bred their igs has ever had a male stay tame and not turn violent whilst in breeding season.
: As alot of people who say they have bred their igs have found that that the male has tried to either breed with them or kill them.

I put that question to the AOL Reptile Board. Melissa Kaplan said that not all males turn aggressive during breeding season. I know you asked about ones being bred; I don't know that. During breeding season, they might get the idea a certain person is their love interest and then try to mate with that person, which, in many instances, means biting first. I know Melissa recommends making a love sock for the ig to transfer its attentions to. I don't know enough about this yet, though. Mine is l8 months old and has just begun to "grow up". He hasn't shown any signs at all of aggressiveness to me, my husband, daughter or anyone else who comes in. However, I DID notice, he has taken quite a shine to my daughter in the last few weeks. He will sit in her room and just gaze at her. If she picks him up, he will sit with her as long as she lets him (he won't do that with me unless HE wants to). When she's not home, he goes over to her bedroom door and tries to paw his way under the door, going so far as to rip out some carpet fibers. She has a lot of little stuffed animals in her room, so before he goes all the way in, he will bob (maybe "asking their permission" to come in)and sit in the doorway a few minutes before making his way all the way in. So ---- so far that's about the only thing that changed about him. I don't know if it will progress to aggressiveness or not. Also, mine is a free-roamer and the girl at the vet's office told me (but again I can't vouch for this) that caged iguanas tend to be more aggressive than free-roamers (mine free-roams upstairs). Hope this helps you and sorry it's so long.......nanci
