: Hi,
: I have a few questions on foods.
: My 4 yr old igi(eddie) has an appetite like a pig. Everyday he eats a whole salad bowl of romaine lettuce, peaches, strawberries, plums, and green leaf. I also sprinkle vitamin supps on it every second feeding.
: I was wondering if I should be giving him other foods. Though he eats lot, he seems to not gain much weight. Which household foods can igi's have as treats? bread?meat?
: Thanks for your time & Big ED says hi:0)
You are giving the ig too much fruit. Fruit should make up l0 percent of the iggie's diet. Good fruits (in addition to the ones you're giving him) are cantaloupe, berries and figs.
Get rid of the lettuce. Romaine is okay for a way to give your ig some extra water (I give a leaf at night in the summer after he ate all his other food for the day)or a treat and is the best out of all the lettuces, but there are much better leafy veggies out there. Collard greens are one of the best veggies for an iguana. Also good are dandelion greens, turnip greens, escarole, endive, mustard greens, butternut squash, snap peas, beans, etc. Broccoli, sprouts and things in the cabbage family should only be given occasionally.
Hope this helps.
