In Reply to: How much to feed per day? posted by Mike on November 12, 2001 at 19:18:13:
: I was just wondering how much i should feed my iguana per day. I haven't had it long. He/she (not quite sure yet) is about 2 feet long head to tip of tail. I feed it collard greens and mustard greens... my girlfriend says i should feed it frozen veggies too (carrots, corn, peas)... is that right?? Jupiter (it's name) gets about 2 cups of cut up greens once a day, and sometimes he eats them all, sometimes not. Any help will be great. Thanks.

No, frozen veggies are NOT good, except in a real emergency. Fresh is the best. Collard greens are great, as are dandelion, mustard greens, endive, turnip tops, escarole, butternut squash, beans, snap peas, cantaloupe, berries, figs. Stay away from the cabbage family except for infrequent treats (broccoli, brussels sprouts, etc.). There are others, but this is a start.
Also, iguanas don't overeat, so you can feed them as much as they will take. Years ago some of the older books said to feed every other day -- NO. Feed your iggie every day. I keep a dish of fresh food at his basking spot from morning until he goes to bed, with a container of fresh water.
