: hey yall are there any tricks to hand training young igs?
: mine just doesnt seem to like me at all. Thanx in advance
The only trick is time and patience. Certainly in the first 3 weeks after getting him, leave him alone and get him used to his cage. Spend a lot of time talking to him and get him used to your hand being in his cage. Dont ever try to pick him up, he must climb onto your hand by himself. Start with feeding him by hand, eventually he should take food from you. When he's confident with that, try to get him onto your hand by pulling the food further away from him that he has to climb onto your hand. Dont take him out of the cage yet. When he will climb onto your hand himself for food and he doesnt seem nervous, take him just outside the cage, talking to him. Let him go back when he wants to...never force him. Eventually he will develop a trust bond with you which is very rewarding...it can take up to a year or longer. So be patient. The more time you spend with him the quicker it will go.
