Well, Skittles was my GF's iguana, and this happened before we got together, but basically, we live in Sarasota, Florida, so it's pretty warm all year round, and there's tons of Igs in the wild that are mostly released pets once they get too big for kids to handle, or offspring of released pets, so the climate here seems good enough for them. It does get pretty cold at night during the months around now, but there's still plenty of fairly warm places for them to hide in the wild at night - Annie escaped earlier this evening and we found her taking roost 25ft up our Oak Tree for the night.

Anyway, Cheri tells me she eventually found Skittles perched on a neighbour's fence a couple of doors down the road. In their garden they have a whole bunch of hibiscus plants, as well as a vegetable garden, so while he probably wasn't eating as well as he could, he was still getting food. There's loads of greenage and trees and places for Igs to climb and hide in the neighbourhood here, so it can be hard to spot them if they're loose.

He had gotten very skinny when Cheri got him back, and he'd grown about 5" or so. He wasn't totally malnourished, but he was very skinny, you could see his ribs showing through his side. It's taken the last year or so since then to get his weight back up and fully healthy again. Nobody said it was easy rehabilitating an Iguana, and can take a while, but he's big n' fat n' healthy now :)

He escaped because they didn't think he could get out of the tank he was in. It was a big tank, and he'd been in it the first year or so of his with no problems. But, he got out, and managed to worm his way through a gap in the screen cage on the window, and that, as they say, is that.

Now we've got them both in the enclosure outside that I just finished building a few days ago. As I said earlier, Annie managed to escape earlier, but when Cheri went out to feed them earlier, the door didn't close properly behind her so we think that's how Annie got out, cuz there's no tears or rips in the screen. Now we've gone to home depot, and switched to new locks on the door so it closes and locks properly now :)
